Ao Aeternum

Amnon's Journal, Entry 2,032

Been about two days, haven’t had time for a journal entry, and I am only writing this one to keep myself calm; anyway let me speak of the past events.

There was some unexpected resistance at the Drow ruin, by of course Drow forces. Thankfully, the team managed to make it out in one piece with the Tome, which I now have in my possession. The book contains wondrous information, all sorts of secrets and methods on improving and possibly perfecting planar travel. I spent the better part of last night attempting to make conversions on my current Planar Travel ritual in order to access the Worlds beyond. Once I felt I was ready, I gathered the team and I opened the new portal and we all stepped through to the plane we’re on now – The Elemental Chaos.

Yes, I believe the ritual malfunctioned and took us to a known location, although I can’t be sure as I don’t know where exactly we were supposed to end up, and what’s worse is that I’m unable to open a portal back home, and none of the members of the team seem to be able to complete exploration rituals either. Thankfully, Hearth managed to use a Shelter ritual as it was getting dark. We were on our way to a nearby Air Genasi trading outpost, when we had to make a detour to avoid rivaling elemental, and now it is nightfall.

Traveling in certain parts of the Chaos at night (If there is even a sun to set in certain parts) can be safer than in other parts; we happen to be located in the latter. Just outside the cabin I can already see a band of shadow elementals. I haven’t told the party what I’ve seen, and only Hammond as well saw them. I don’t want to scare them, but I’ll have to tell them soon what I saw- in case we have to face them.

Some say shadow elementals don’t exist, because on the mortal plane they manfiest as a person’s shadow, and they are only capable of movement when they aren’t being observed. No one is capable of seeing other people’s shadow elementals. In the elemental chaos however, shadow elementals are able to manifest only at night, but because of that they are able to roam free, not restricted to the movement of the caster of their shadow. So during the day they remain dormant, only to hunt the caster of their shadow upon nightfall. This makes traveling in groups in certain parts of the Elemental Chaos like the one we are traveling in particularly dangerous, as shadow elementals are fully capable of hunting in groups.

It’s hard to understand what you are looking at if you actually see a Shadow Elemental, as in the darkness they have no tangible outline, only a pair of small red eyes darting through the night. It also makes being hunted by shadow elementals all the harder for if you are in darkness and they close their eyes, they are impossible to detect through natural senses, as they make no noise when moving. Needless to say they are far more dangerous than most of the foes the team has faced so far, I am hard pressed myself to think of scarier foes that even I have fought in my life. I can only hope we do not have to face them.

Amnon's Journal, Entry 2,031

It doesn’t have a name, whatever this group of adventurers I’ve put together again is. What is it, the third time I’ve done this? Belial! I know how many times it’s been. Too many. And it’s not getting a name this time. Noldar gave us a name the first time, brought us all together. It’s what almost got us all killed, all except me. And then it happened again. But I won’t let happen again this time. I can’t make it on my own in this word, not anymore. Sheo always taught me you need people to get by in life. He was right about just about everything, I just wish he was here for me to tell him that. I always gave him garbage for worshiping some God, I was just jealous because I was so alone. But I’m not alone now, even if I have to remain distant with the newcomers. There’s four of them now. Some up-and-coming Psionic, an eager-to-please Blood-brother with a dark edge, some recluse Wizard, and finally the Quiet one. Interesting cast of characters this time around, at least they get along unlike last time. I’ve learned something over the years, your brothers-in-arms can’t be too buddy-buddy, but they can’t be at each others’ throats either. That’s what got the last group killed, almost killed me too. I was lucky to get out of that tower alive. But I digress. I’m getting older now, so luckily whether I get involved emotionally with these people doesn’t matter, I stay away from the combat myself. Now-a days I just give the orders.

As of now I’ve given orders for the team to go fetch an ancient spellbook that once belonged to a Githyanki planeshifter, it’s supposed to have some lucrative information on planar travel. I have enough money saved up to pay them as this job is, well maybe not personal, but I want that book for myself. Not that they know that, but it shouldn’t matter to them, they are getting paid.

Anyway so about that spellbook. Luckily few know what secrets that book holds, or else it would probably be more protected. As of now it’s in the Underdark, inside the ruins of an old Drow outpost, so there shouldn’t be much resistance. They should be back within a few hou

So apparently there is some resistance, I will write back shortly.
